Dear Scoutmaster,
Chickagami Lodge has made it a goal to provide 2010 OA elections to the troops in our Council between January 1st and March 31st. For some troops, this is earlier than in past years. Remaining elections for the 2009 year will not be held, Boy Scouts that have already been elected will still have the usual two conclaves to complete the ordeal.
To help your troop plan, and so we can start to arrange for Arrowmen from other troop(s) to conduct it, we would like you to propose a date for your troop’s next OA election:
______________, _________________, 2010
A troop meeting right after the start of the new school year would be an excellent time to explain to scouts who are not yet OA members –in a Scoutmaster’s Minute -- the eligibility requirements for OA and of the standards for election. To be eligible to have his name placed on the ballot at the next unit election, a scout must be at least First Class, have camped at least 15 days and nights in the last two years, including 6 days and 5 nights of long-term camping, and have your approval. You can sum up the standards for election by asking troop members to watch over the next few months to see “who best exemplifies the Scout Oath and Law.” You might also remind members and non-members that continued service to the troop is a requirement for Brotherhood membership.
Please email me by September 25th at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it (please cc: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Sincerely,
Thomas J. Casaceli Vice-Chief of Elections Chickagami 180
